A Friday Night Out With College Pals At A Local College Pub Leads To Excessive And Hazardous Drinking And Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had obtained a reputation as an individual who hit the books real hard and who rarely, if ever, had fun drinking with her buddies. She seemed almost obsessed about "standing out" academically so that she would be able to pursue a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her a degree of financial stability.

After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into a distinguished program in religion. Her rationale for this decision was that this academic discipline would be a good springboard for law school and would not be similar to the majority of law school applicants who pick political science as their undergraduate major.

Lois was the kind of individual who worked attentively to reach her objective and then would take a breather when she could. As is the case, nonetheless, a good number of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks did not involve drinking. Clearly, Lois was anything but a party-girl. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were completed and elated with the fact that she had done extremely well on her tests, because of this, she felt like celebrating.

So Lois and a few of her friends from school went to a local bar where they had a few shots. As the evening moved forward, Lois and her classmates continued to drink. In truth, she was having such an incredible time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.

After drinking about an-hour-and-a-half when Lois started to slur her words, speak in a confused manner, and then fall unconscious, in spite of this, her classmates instantaneously knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency number, and ask for emergency assistance because they suspected that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was conscious of the fact that she had narrowly escaped death from an alcohol overdose and, consequently, was happy to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat dejected knowing that she had almost passed away the previous night. Her parents realized how hard she worked in graduate school and how little she permitted herself to experience a social life. Nonetheless, they also were aware that Lois needed to avoid irresponsible drinking.

As a consequence, they suggested that down the road, whenever a drinking occasion unfolds, that she always drink responsibly. Lois was in agreement with this and promised her friends and her Mom and Dad that she would never again drink in an abusive manner. As stated by Lois, "I never thought that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local college newspaper. I now grasp the fact that excessive and hazardous drinking is not the best for me. I say publicly that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also possessed. Stated another way, she quickly knew that she had made an error and made up her mind that she would never make the same mistake again. If truth be told, she now realized that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of careless and excessive drinking can end in a fatality.
